When you donate a vehicle, you have certain responsibilities to provide documentation and forms required by the IRS regulations, and by the state laws concerning transfer of vehicle ownership.
Your donation of a vehicle is tax deductible when you follow the IRS requirements.
The donation must appear as an itemized deduction on your Schedule A of form 1040.
The donation must be made to a qualified organization.
Certain limitations on the amount you claim may apply. See IRS Publication 526, Charitable Contributions, and IRS Publication 4303, A Donor’s Guide to Vehicle Donations for the rules on deductibility.
