Northwest Center has developed
tremendously in the last four-plus decades. Starting with the intensive passion
of a group of parents who desired education for their shunned children in
the mid 1960’s, Northwest Center has
become a recognized leader in the development of potential of both children
and adults.
The leadership at Northwest Center understands the values that drive its
mission: dignity, quality, inclusion and engagement, autonomy, zero
rejection, innovation, individual potential, the value of each person to
the community and the importance of family. Based on those values, Northwest
Center has recently committed itself to a path to substantially expand
its programs and impact more people in our community.
Over the next few years, we will:
- Expand and enhance both our existing children’s and adult programs
- Develop
programs in other life areas to supplement employment training
- Enhance
family support and outreach
- Develop broader community participation in
Northwest Center’s
programs
- Better advocate for the people we serve and their families
We currently have projects underway that will:
- Dramatically expand the number of Child Development Centers we operate
- Develop
a transition program for young adults leaving high school
- Develop significant
respite options for all families in our community
- Develop an afterschool
program for young adults 13-21
- Enhance and expand our vocational employment
services
- Improve information access and outreach for families, utilizing
technology and expertise available worldwide
Northwest Center is dedicated to developing a world where every person
with a disability has tools and access to opportunities that will enable
them to live a productive, happy and fulfilling life—on their terms.
