This past Saturday, April 29th, SODO Park was transformed into a sea of decorative hats and roses, with philanthropic spirit abounding. The Derby was a success for the sixth year running, from the silent and live auctions to the wine pull we raised $267,432 benefiting Northwest Center Kids. Our guests came prepared with passion for our services, as our uncompensated NWC Smooth Way Home Program was the primary beneficiaries of the evening. One of the most frightening moments for parents in the NICU is the transition from hospital to home. In one moment, they lose a 24-hour medical support team and must shoulder the responsibility for a still-fragile child.
That is where Northwest Center arrives. Our Early Intervention team supports families in smooth transitions from the NICU to home. Care at this stage means much more than survival; it means giving babies the healthiest future possible. The money raised at Derby will support the continuation of Northwest Center working in the family’s home. It supports our expertly trained Family Resources Coordinators, Speech-Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Special Educators and Nutritionists. Because of the generous contributions from supports, we will continue to support families every step of the way. Because of continued support, Northwest Center remains to be a key member in the regional collaboration to develop the launch of the “Smooth Way Home” project in collaboration with other NICU transition programs in Washington State. The auction was an especially exciting part of the night. Packages included generous donations from Seattle Mariners, Seattle Seahawks and OOLA Distillery. Some of the lucky winners will be enjoying trips to Australia and Lake Tahoe, as well as local rendezvous such as a tour through several Woodinville Wineries and a stay at the famous Edgewater Hotel. We also want to extend our thanks to 14 Hands Winery, Maker’s Mark, Fireball and Tito’s Vodka for their generous donations, which our guests enjoyed experiencing throughout the evening. Another thank you goes out to everyone who supported Northwest Center at The Derby, your contributions ensure that children throughout the Pacific Northwest have access to the services they need and deserve, every step of the way.
