On August 12th, Jenn Ramirez Robson, Chief Program Officer at Northwest Center, accepted Federal Way’s first Disability Pride Proclamation at the City Council meeting. Jenn’s heartfelt remarks centered on the importance of celebrating the joy, achievements, and belonging of people with disabilities, reminding all of us that everyone has a place in our community.
Federal Way’s commitment didn’t stop at recognition. The City Council also approved a $274,895 ADA retrofit initiative, making 13 ramps across 7 intersections more accessible. These improvements will help people with disabilities, seniors, families with strollers, and many more safely and confidently move through their neighborhoods.
This important progress was made possible by the determination and advocacy of Councilmember Lydia Assefa-Dawson, whose leadership brought the proclamation to life and ensured real change for accessibility in Federal Way.
These steps strengthen not only Federal Way but the wider community. Every action, whether a new ramp or a message of pride, moves us closer to a more inclusive world where everyone can participate fully.
Let’s keep up this momentum. Support local accessibility, advocate for improved inclusion, and help build a future where all belong. Together, we can make a difference.
