Joyce Jackson, Board Chair

I am part of the Northwest Center because of my family-of-origin story. I grew up with an older sister who was born with profound deafness in both ears. My parents devoted themselves to advocating for the education and therapy she needed to become a well-functioning adult, which made a huge difference in her life. As a result of this early influence, my first career was in speech and hearing—specifically as a pediatric audiologist.

My sister’s family includes six deaf individuals, so I continue to feel connected to disability issues and the importance of creating an inclusive world for people of all abilities.

I serve on the Northwest Center board to advance the mission so infants, children, and adults can experience the support they need through services and advocacy.
